Are you achieving your potential?

Updated: Jul 2, 2020

‘What is potential? Potential is, not what is, but what could be’ ‘Potential is not what you have done, but what you can do but have not yet done.’

It’s essential for us to know that we were created with potential and our potential lies deep within us waiting to be discovered’.

Whatever we believe with feelings becomes our reality. Our internal thoughts affect our internal feeling, which affect our external behaviour. We have the power to make our world our reality. Remember, our potential is always present, just waiting to be exposed.

Many of us are unaware that we hold limiting beliefs about ourselves and those beliefs have such a powerful influence on the quality of all aspects of our lives.

Here is a demonstration of the enormous power of the belief system.

In May 1954, Roger Bannister ran a mile in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds. Hundreds of runners had tried, unsuccessfully, before him to run a mile in less than four minutes. The scientific and medical world had claimed that it could not be done. It was said that the human heart muscles and bone would not be able to withstand the stress of such an effort.

Once he had demonstrated that it was indeed possible, others began to believe, so they matched or exceeded his performance. Many other athletes have since run the mile in under four minutes.

Usain Bold hold both the 100m and 200m world records – 9.58 and 19.19 seconds respectively – and the last three Olympic titles in each event. He is regarded as the fastest human ever timed with his world records

So, what was the turning point? What was the deciding factor? How did both Bannister and Bolt achieve the impossible? They made a conscious effort to ignore the accepted belief and carefully prepared mentally to achieve their goal that day.

They knew they had the potential to their goal.

Your past experiences do not measure your future success. You are capable of more than others expect of you – even beyond your own imagination.
